Neath Food & Drink festival 2010

We have had lots of feedback from the Neath food & drink festival in the past 10 days. Everybody loved our cheesecake cups and our frangipane mince pies went down a storm. A number of people said how they missed us in Neath and it was nice to talk to many old friends. We took the opportunity to remind people that they can still order their cakes from us either over the internet or by telephone or if they are passing they are more than welcome to call into our unit in Baglan for a visit.

We are working on a new project at the moment with regards to our cheesecakes, so keep reading the blog to find out more news as it is annouced.

Neath Food & Drink Festival 2010 Cake

Every good celebration requires a cake and Neath food & drink festival 2010 was no exception. It is the second year now that Ian has organised the event and the crowds came out in force.

Sian was locked in St.Davids Church all day doing cookery demonstrations and 49 food producers from across South Wales filled the streets of Neath with their wares.

Croquembouche for the King Arthur

Last Saturday, Sian made a caramel croquembouche for a wedding at the King Arthur Hotel in Reynoldston, Swansea. The flowers for the cake were supplied by Gutteridge florists  in Porthcawl.

 

The damp weather last weekend made working with caramel a real challenge but Sian rose to the challenge.

The other wedding cake we supplied last week was a more traditional cake. The bride choose a 3 tier ivory wedding cake decorated with blue ribbons and diamante diamonds. The flavours for the cake were fruit and lemon madeira. The cake was delivered to a new wedding venue for us - The Grove Golf Club  in Porthcawl, nr Bridgend.

Ryder Cup cup cakes, desserts and patisserie

 The Ryder cup is coming to the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport in just under two weeks. To mark the occasion we are supplying desserts to a number of the golfing hotels across South Wales who are entertaining both corporate guests and visitors from across Europe and the USA.

European offerings include Italian Chocolate & Amaretto tortes, English Toffee Sticky Pudding, Bread and Butter Pudding with a touch of the Irish, Scottish Carnachan Raspberry Cheesecake, Spanish Almond Pannacotta with poached pears and Bavarian Apple Strudel.

 

For the American team we have Cookies & Cream Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie and American Baked Cherry Cheesecake.

St.Fagans to Fishguard

Two wedding cakes for two weddings this weekend and over 100 miles between them.

On friday we delivered to a new venue for us - St.Fagans Castle nr Cardiff and on Saturday we drove the other way to the Fishguard Bay Hotel in Fishguard. It took us over 2 hours to drive to Fishguard with a 5 tier wedding cake which weighed an absolute tonne.Thankfully we deliverd the cake without any hiccups.

The theme for the wedding was Red and White and the bride and groom had over 250 guests attending the wedding breakfast. In order to satisfy all tastes we supplied four different cake flavours, fruit cake, madeira cake, chocolate cake and carrot cake.

The St.Fagans wedding was a more intimate affair with only 40 guests and the setting in a private room in St.Fagans castle was absolutely fabulous. For the wedding cake the bride choose a 3 tier cake decorated with white flower blossoms.

This week we opened our wedding books for 2011 and already most of the consultations times for the next month have already been taken.

Swansea Life Madeira Cake recipe

September's edition of Swansea Life magazine features Sian's recipe for Madeira sponge and vanilla buttercream. This is by far the most popular type of cake we baked for celebrations such as birthdays and weddings.

The article shows pictures of cakes we have have designed recently for Yellow Jersey Tour de France Cake and a 1970's Disco inspired cake. Also featured is a pink and white pipped Wedding Cake, designed to look like a wrapped present.

 

This cake was also featured in this months edition of South Wales Your Wedding Magazine along with a previous chocolate creation of Sian's called "Jardin du Chocolat".
