Great Taste Awards 2010

The results have been published for the 2010 Great Taste Awards and we have just been notified that we have won a Gold Star for our Pear & Ginger Pudding.

This is going to be a fantastic dessert for Christmas served with warm custard (or fresh cream which is my favourite for accompaniment to any dessert).

Pear & Ginger is a perfect combination for a winter dessert and Sian has produced a recipe that really works.

This dessert is definately not just food,  its "Comfort Food"

Hungry Caterpillar, Peppa Pig & Sponge Bob

We made some special birthday cakes last weekend with children's characters, Hungry Caterpillar, Peppa Pig and Sponge Bob Square pants.

The lady who ordered the The Hungry caterpillar cake rang us on Monday morning to say that "the cake was amazing. Everybody loved the design and it tasted as good as it looked".

It is always so rewarding when you receive feedback and this particular cake was definitely a favourite of mine.

For the Peppa Pig cake we delivered this to New Dock Stars Clubhouse in Llanelli. The organiser rang to ask for a peppa pig cake and the design she wanted was the design on a child's lunch box which showed Peppa Pig The Brave. Mel was able to download a copy of the image and then she decorated the cake in a patch work quilt style. Needless to say she did an amazing job.

This cake was 10" square, jam and butter-cream madeira cake which serves 50 plus slices.

For Sponge Bob Square Pants, Mel made the figures out of sugar-paste including Patrick and the giant pineapple and decorated the cake with an underwater theme.

Sporty Cup Cakes & Animal Cup Cakes

"Penblywdd Hapus Morgan", eight today.

Morgan is sports mad and his mother asked if we could design some cup cakes to incorporate his favourite sports - Rugby, Football & Golf

Another theme we were asked to create recently was animal character cup cakes.

Next week it is iggly piggly, upsey daisy, hungry caterpillar, peppa pig and sponge bob square pants.

Our latest Wedding Cake creations

Three wedding cake creations last weekend,

delivered to The King Arthur in Reynoldston in the Gower,

Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel in Bridgend and The Vale Hotel in Hensol. nr Cardiff.

The first wedding cake cake was a three tier ivory cake with diamante diamonds and dark green ribbons with a diamante broach.

The second wedding cake was a three tier white cigarillo cake with pink dusted roses.

The final wedding cake was a 2 tier cake, styled in double height. Each tier was 10" tall and decorated with crystal bands and a swarovski fountain cake topper.

Rose Garden Wedding Cake Topper

Rose Garden Wedding Cake Topper with matching fondant iced cup cakes. This was last fridays creation for the wedding of Jason and Sian held at the Oxwich Bay Hotel in the Gower, Swansea.

We will be starting to take orders for 2011 Wedding Cakes from September 1st.

NPT Fairtrade event

We have just had the pictures through from the NPT Fairtrade event we attended last month. The event was superbly organised and it was well attended. Neath Port Talbot is firmly established as a Fairtrade county and it was a pleasure as a local business to give our support to the Fairtrade movement.

Made with a biscuit base, Ty tanglywst fresh double cream, caster sugar, cream cheese and vanilla.

Topped with all flavour combinations including lemon, raspberry, strawberry, turkish delight, banoffee sauce, white chocolate, baileys liqueur, blueberry, orange and passion fruit.

We supply lots of restaurants across South Wales with our individual cheesecakes including La Parrilla in Swansea, The King Arthur in Reynoldston on the Gower, The Atlantic in Porthcawl and Margam Orangery.

We also supply cheesecakes for family parties, buffets, birthdays etc. We deliver all across South Wales or you can order and collect from our unit in Baglan.

Swansea Life Designer Jelly Recipes

Sian's designer Jelly recipes written for Swansea Life Magazine's July edition.

 "Possibly the most low fat and gorgeous desserts you can create are jellies and terrine's.  I don’t mean the super sweet brightly coloured children’s jelly, that are a party treat for every toddler’s birthday, but the elegant and sophisticated desserts created at the height of summer when fruit is at its most flavoursome.  You can easily create a show stopping wow dessert with very little skill.  Making jelly takes patience to create layers rather than technical knowledge and skills in baking.

Fresh jellies are made with gelatine.  Don’t be intimidated, buy sheets of gelatine from the supermarket, these are softened in cold water, then dissolved in warm water.  A simple guideline is 4 sheets will set 1 pint of liquid.  Adding alcohol to jellies alters the setting consistency so follow a recipe if you are an inexperienced jelly maker !"

4 weddings and a funeral, plus one

We all loved the film "4 Weddings and a Funeral" well last weekend we did "Five Weddings and a Funeral".

One of the weddings was held in a marquee overlooking Oxwich Bay, in Gower, Swansea. The weather wasn't great in the morning when we delivered but it did clear up later in the day. This is the view of the marquee looking out over the South Wales coastline.

The Wedding Cake Sian baked was a two tier ivory cake topped with drapes and ivory roses.

This is quite a contrast to one of the other wedding cakes Sian made last weekend which was a small two tier cake decorated with the couples initials.

Peggy Porschens Wedding Cake Design

It is lovely to do a wedding cake in an unusual colour. For last weekends Wedding Cake the bride asked us to bake a cake inspired by a classic Peggy Porschens design.

The cake was coloured with Hydrangea blue with white icing.

As well as the Wedding Cake we also supplied the desserts for the wedding breakfast which was held at the Towers Hotel in Swansea. The whole of the hotel was decorated with fresh flowers and hydrangea blue fabric.

For dessert we supplied a trio of Turkish Delight cups, raspberry tarts and chocolate cups filled with chocolate mousse and finished with a decorated chocolate spoon.

For serving with coffees we also supplied petit welsh cakes and handmade chocolate truffles.
