Pictures show Sian & Tonya cooking with Ali Thomas Leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council and also a young lad from the audience who helped out making fresh fruit tart with creme patisserie.
Every good celebration requires a cake and Neath food & drink festival 2010 was no exception. It is the second year now that Ian has organised the event and the crowds came out in force.
Sian was locked in St.Davids Church all day doing cookery demonstrations and 49 food producers from across South Wales filled the streets of Neath with their wares.
This is a picture of Mel making the festival cake on Friday
and this is the finished product which was on display in the Church. Our Autumn fruits design to match perfectly the festival logo.
We had a very special visitor to our Centre of Excellence on the Baglan Moors in Port Talbot today. The Leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, Ali Thomas, called in to see how our new unit was progressing and to offer his support and encouragement for all our future ventures.
Accompanying the Leader were members of the Economic Development department for NPT Council, who had been instrumental in helping our business over the last 3 years. The leader commented how please he was to see the ongoing success of our business. He also thanked the economic development team for the great work they are doing to support and promote economic prosperity in the region.
As a parting gift we gave Ali a box of our Great Taste Award Winning Frangipane Mince Pies.
He has promised to spread the word about how good they are.
It is always difficult planning something new, especially something as large as a Food & Drink Festival.
How will the public take to it? How will local business react?
Will anybody come? What about the weather?
Can we attract the exhibitors?
These are just a few of thousand questions I asked myself before embarking on the project. My gut told me that Neath would support it. Neath people want to buy local and support local welsh producers. Without exception, the producers are truly passionate about their products and the food and drink festival was a fantastic platform to showcase the best they have to offer.
Check out the following two video's to listen to the exhibitors reaction to public response on the day.
Everybody has a smile on their faces and has a positive story to tell.
Sian spent the day hosting cookery demonstrations in St.Davids church and again the public support was incredible. Sian's recipes were carefully chosen to showcase local produce and there was plenty of samples to go around after each session. If you attended the demonstrations and would like further information on the recipes then they can be downloaded from the festival website www.neathfoodfestival.co.uk .
What we need now is feedback. Please send us your experiences of the day and help make the festival an annual event. Email [email protected]
Many thanks to Adam Jones who kindly agreed to open the festival and did the first cookery demonstration with Sian. The people of Neath feel tremendous warmth for Adam and we all feel very proud of his success. Adam was wonderful with children and my favourite question of the day was nothing to do with rugby, it was an enquire into
"What hair care products, Adam uses".
The first Neath food and drink festival was a roaring success with both traders and the general public throughly enjoying the day. Lots of samples were given out and lots of money went through the tills, as people came out in force to support local producers.
The quality of the produce on offer was first class and the exhibitors showed their true passion for the products they make.
If you have any questions about the recipes or you would like to post comments about the day then please send us an email [email protected]

Saturday 24th October is going to be the day of the first Neath Food and drink festival and here at La Creme we are busy preparing.
Products on sale on the day will include Halloween Cup cakes, welshcakes, chocolate brownies, millionaire shortbread, toffee apples and frangipane tarts.
Our stall will be based close to Town square alongside Next.
As well as running a stall, Sian will also be hosting a day of cookery demonstrations in St.Davids Church the first one of which will start at 11.00am and Sian will be accompanied by Adam Jones, the Wales and British Lion forward.
In order for Sian he utter the famous line "Here's one I prepared earlier" here's a picture of her making many today.
Check out the festival website www.neathfoodfestival.co.uk to see the running order for the cookery demonstrations and find out what else is happening on the day.
We are absolutely delighted that Ospreys, Wales and British Lions forward Adam Jones has kindly agreed to open the first Neath food and drink festival to be held on Saturday 24th October 2009.
The event has been a long time in the planning but it has really captured the imagination of the local businesses and organisations in Neath and I have had nothing but positive feedback from everybody.
There will be lots of entertainment on the day and Sian will be running cookery demonstrations in St.Davids church using local ingredients.
The first Neath food & drink festival will be held in Neath Town Centre on Saturday 24th October from 10.00am to 5.00pm. The event will feature over 20 food and drink producers from across South Wales and will be covered on the day by Swansea Bay Radio.
There will be cookery demonstraions, childrens workshops, health & well being activities and plenty of entertainment. It promises to be a good family day out showcasing the best that Neath has to offer.
As well as organising the event, we will also be exhibiting our award winning products on the day and also Sian will be doing some cookery demonstrations and cup cake workshops.
National Cup Cake Week is a fantastic week long extravaganza being organised by the British Baker Magazine to celebrate this special Bakery product.
The aim of the week, held from September 14th - 19th 2009, is to draw customers attention to the many wonderful recipes and exotic toppings available for cupcakes and to tempt both new and existing customers to buy (at least) one during the week!
Judging has been underway for the past month to find the best cupcake and cupcake makers in the UK. The six best cupcakes will go on top represent one trading day of the week, with the champion cupcakes representing a Super Indulgent Saturday.
We have just been notified that we have selected as one of the finalist for the competition and as the only remaining Welsh Company we can officially lay claim to having the best cupcakes in Wales.
We have to provide samples for the final judging session which will take place in Oxford this coming Wednesday (5th August) with the judging panel including both Mich Turner and Fiona Burrell both of whom are heroes of Sian.
