High Street Musical Birthday Cake

Recently, we have had requestsfor birthday cakes shaped like guitars, like fish, liverpool football shirt, fire engines, iggle piggly and even a horse's head.

High school musical is tame by comparison.

Sian's latest wedding cake creation is a little bit unusual. The bride who was geting married at the Glynclydach coach house asked Sian to match exactly a picture of a wedding cake she had seen in a magazine. This particular cake was 3 tiers, chocolate, decorated in shades of green and had two frogs - a female with red lips and a large male sitting on top.

This cake was great fun to make and it looked amazing when it was finished.

 

 

Your health in your hands campaign

Neath Port Talbot Health and Well being partnership have been holding a series of events this week entitled "Your health is in your hands". As part of the campaign to get the message out to children to eat five pieces of fruit a day, Sian was asked to give a short demonstration to children at Pontardawe leisure centre about fruit smoothies.

 

Sian was accompanied to the event by three people dressed up as a carrot, a banana and a dodgy looking leek. Look out for the photo in the South Wales Evening Post.

Centre of Excellence nearing completion

Work on the centre of excellence is nearing completion. The floor and wall covering have been fitted in the kitchen and the final touches are being made to the paint work upstairs. Internal doors and windows are ready for painting and the kitchen equipment is starting to arrive on site.

 

 

 

 

Welsh Cup Cakes

One of the more unusual requests last weekend was for Welsh Cup Cakes to celebrate a birthday and a famous Welsh victory over the old enemy.

 

Come on Wales - two down, three to go.

Chocolate Malteser 21st Birthday Cake

Fun cake to make and it looked amazing.

Its a two tier chocolate cake covered with maltesers and finished with stars and maltesers on wires with 21 iced onto the stars.

 

You know you have got a hit,when the person collecting brings you in some flowers as a Thank You.

Valentine's Takeaway

It is a busy weekend ahead with Valentines Day and the Wales versus England match on Saturday.

Goulash for Saturday Night Takeaway

With the cold weather and rugby to watch, this Saturday's takeaway menu is just what you need to warm you up.

For starters we have Roast Red Pepper Brushetta.

Main course is Beef Goulash with wild rice and cucumber & coriander salad.

Dessert is Blackberry and Vanilla Cheesecake

Priced at £15 per head, this is a perfect menu for that romantic meal for two or for entertaining friends. Sian will provide easy to follow cooking instructions and you can even take all the credit yourself.

Snow day

The snow arrived today and most of South Wales decided to stay at home. We started the day, by going sledging up the park with our four children at 7.30am. It was the first time that Isabel had ever seen snow. By 9.30am we were back in the house drinking hot chocolate.

We decided to close the patisserie for the day but Sian had to go into work because she had two orders for Birthday Cakes and she didn't want to let anyone down. We walked into town and there wasn't a car on the road. By midday the clouds had lifted and I decided to drive over to the new unit to take some pictures of the progress so far.

This is the main cooking area for the new kitchen, complete with temporary coffee and tea making facilities.

 

Upstairs we have completed the central heating and are starting to paint the walls. The suspended ceiling should be in place by the end of next week.

Completion date for the whole unit is still on schedule for March 1st.

Wedding cakes, a design source

The winter edition of the most popular wedding cake magazine was issue on January 30th.

The magazine "Wedding Cakes - A Design Source" is available in the UK from WHSmith, supermarkets and newsagents nationwide. They feature hundreds of new designs and ideas, with all the latest trends covered from Chocolate to mini cakes. Its a great place to start if you are looking for inspiration.

Well the great news is that Sian's Chocolate Wedding cake "Jardin du Chocolat" has a full page spread in the magazine. This is Sian's debut in the magazine and she was so excited when she saw the picture. This is national recognition and a great confidence boaster that she can make cakes with the best.

 

I have blogged previously about this Wedding cake and great thing about it was that the bride had given Sian an open brief. "Surprise Me" she said.
